Rammohan Sundaram of PlatformPlay has announced that his company will be bringing TechCrunch’s events to the country by the end of this year. These events are 2 day conferences which will feature entrepreneurs, VCs and other tech speakers in addition to hackathons. It is not immediately clear if these events will be branded as TechCrunch Disrupt or will carry on as separate properties.
Rammohan Sundaram recently set up PlatformPlay as a conduit to get International brands into the Indian space and this seems to be the first among many others that are yet to come. The Techcrunch events will be held city wise starting first with Bangalore, then moving to Mumbai and finally Delhi. These 3 events are going to take place between November 2013 and August 2014. There will be pitch presentations and product building nights which will have lucrative prizes for the ones who create innovative products. PlatformPlay’s aim seems to be to get as much investment for Indian startups as possible via these events. Sundaram seems to be very positive about the scope of these events and their eventual result i.e getting the startup culture to take off in India!
There has been some speculation whether this means that TechCrunch will make an entry into the country along with other AOL properties. There is no official announcement to that end. Rising Internet consumption means that there is a market for content properties. Imagine Huffington Post (another AOL property) having an India section!
